Pierre Bourgeois
1898-1976
poet
Pierre Bourgeois was born in Charleroi in the same year as Magritte, and moved to Brussels in 1916. There he published his first volumes of poetry and, with his brother Victor, quickly became a leading figure in intellectual and artistic circles. It was his idea to create the weekly review 7 Arts, and he managed the practical aspects of its production while also writing numerous articles on literary and ideological questions. Finally, it was thanks to his friend Pierre Bourgeois, who lent him the catalogue, that Magritte discovered the work of the Futurists. Their friendship was to be lifelong, in spite of their disagreements over theoretical matters.
