Suzi Gablik
1934
artist and art critic
Suzi Gablik, with a project for a Magritte monograph in mind, was introduced to the artist by Harry Torczyner. In 1959, this young American artist and critic, paid visit to the Magritte household for the first time, a visit which, according to some, lasted some eight months. She became totally integrated with their circle of friends, and took part in several of the Magritte’s short films. The monograph complete, she vainly sought a willing publisher. Finally, the work did appear, three years after the artist’s death (Suzi Gablik, Magritte, London, Thames and Hudson, 1970).
